Dear community members,

I hope this finds you well. I work at Learning on Screen, a UK charity and membership organisation specialised in the use of moving image and sound in education and research.

I thought you might be interested to see one of the first outputs of the BoB for AI initiative, which aims to make our BoB archive - composed of more than 2.5 million TV and radio broadcasts - available for data science research.

To start testing the potential of the BoB archive for AI, we conducted a pilot project with Nesta which used computer vision techniques to study gender representation on-screen. You can find a blog series reporting findings of the project here:

We hope this will be the first of many projects of this kind. If you are interested in using our extensive archive for data science research purposes, please get in touch!

Best wishes,

Bartolomeo Meletti
Education and Research Executive
