European Library Webmaster (f/m)
THE ORGANIZATION The Koninklijke Bibliotheek (KB), the National Library of the Netherlands, gives everyone access to the knowledge and culture of the past and the present by providing high-quality services for research, study and cultural experience. The collection gives access to the living memory of written, printed and electronic publications.
The KB also initiates and executes innovative research projects in the field of digital technologies, web services and the preservation of the written, printed and digital Dutch heritage. These are the responsibility of the Research & Development Division. This Division co-operates closely with other (national) libraries, heritage institutions, companies, external patrons, expert centres and standardisation organisations. Its current research curriculum deals with digital preservation and permanent access, digitisation, metadata schemes, technical and semantic interoperability, benchmarking and preservation microfilming.
The Conference of European National Librarians (CENL) is creating a pan-European resource discovery service called The European Library, to provide access to the digital and printed collections of its 42 members. This service is a follow-up to the EC-funded project The European Library (www.europeanlibrary.org), and will include the current Gabriel web service (www.kb.nl/gabriel). A European Library Office will be set up to manage the development and exploitation of this new service. This office will be installed at the R&D division of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in The Hague, The Netherlands. The European Library Office currently has a job vacancy for a Webmaster.
JOB DETAILS You will be responsible for the development/maintenance of the European Library website (including the portal interface, library guide, virtual exhibition, etc.) and for the development/maintenance of the European Library management website for participants. You will be responsible for the liaison between the participants regarding content, presentation, use and multi-lingual issues. You will be responsible for content management of the European Library Metadata Registry and for the helpdesk for end-users.
BENEFITS The CAO (Collective Labour Agreement) of Dutch Research Institutions is applicable. According to this CAO, the gross monthly salary is a minimum of € 2.039,- and a maximum of € 2.734,- (scale 8 full time, excl. 8% holiday bonus and 4,1% 'December bonus'). On offer is a full time job for three years. The KB offers favourable additional conditions of employment.
